Good To Know about Rent a Car In Dubai
We will deliver the car to your desired location. Car rent and the deposit will be done while you are receiving the car.
The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider special series has made its European debut at Paris Motor Show 2018, following its world premiere at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. With an unmatched weight/power ratio, the Prancing horse introduced the 50th drop-top model.
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider blends the best race-developed technology with the joy and freedom of open-air driving to create an exhilarating driving experience. The car and driver feel one in an intimate relationship. This enables them to respond instantly to commands and maintain absolute control while performing complex maneuvers. This is not surprising, as the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider has the best technology transfer to the track of any road-legal open-top car.
The model’s engine and dynamics as well as aerodynamics were derived from the engines of two track cars, the 488 Challenge (488 GTE) and the 488 Challenge (488 Challenge). Ferrari now holds five GT Manufacturers’ title since 2012, when the GT class was won by the 488 Challenge. The extensive development work involved in producing the coupe version of the 488 Pista has clearly benefited this model.
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider boasts the most powerful V8 engine Maranello has ever seen. This engine was also named Best Engine at the 2018 International Engine of the Year Awards. The twin-turbo 3902cc V8 produces 720cv (50cv more than the 488 Spider), and is tuned to produce a constant, increasing acceleration. The engine was awarded the title of “Best of the Best”, which signifies that it is the best engine of all the winners in the past 20 years.
It is the Prancing Horse’s most powerful spider, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.85 seconds as well as a lap time of 1’21” at Fiorano.
The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider targets a diehard Ferrarista who owns other Ferrari Spiders. These drivers are looking for the best of both worlds: speed and power, as well as the thrill of driving with a drop-top and listening to the amazing engine.
These innovations do not just result in a higher power output, but also a reduction in weight. Due to multiple innovations, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider offers even better handling. It is one of the most captivating Ferrari models.
ENGINE
Its performance and characteristics set the standard for all turbo engines of the new generation, as well as engines that are naturally aspirated. It is the engine that was voted Engine of the Year for the following three years: 2016, 2017, and 2018. It’s also the most powerful V8 Ferrari has ever used on the road, both in terms of power output and overall power. It has the greatest power increase over its predecessor, the 488 Spider.
The car’s outstanding technical performance puts it at the top end of its category. Ferrari 488 Pista Spider produces 720 cv @ 8,000 rpm. This is 115 cv higher than the 488 Spider and 50 cv less than the 488 Spider. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider’s maximum power output is now 185cv/l. Maximum torque is higher at all engine speeds, reaching 770 Nm (10 Nm less than the 488 Spider) and available at 3,000rpm.
The 488 Challenge’s new engine intake layout allowed for increased power and volume. It also allowed for more space to house the intercooler before the rear wheels by moving the air intakes from their sides to the rear. This reduces fluid-dynamic loads and provides more airflow to the engine. This contributes to increased power.
Evolved components, such as Inconel exhaustmanifolds, lighter crankshafts and flywheels, and titanium conrods were used to reduce weight. They all use F1-derived technologies. Total weight reduction of the engine was 18 kg.
The 488 Challenge includes turbos with integrated rev sensors. Response times are instantaneous and even faster than the 488 Spider, thanks to a new specifically-developed control strategy. The new pedal map makes it easier to drive on the limit.
A combination of specific springs and valves as well as a new cam profile contributed to the engine’s power increase. The cylinder liner is also thinner. These important upgrades are made possible by the geometry of new exhaust manifolds. You can’t forget the carbon-fibre intake channels, which are a signature of Ferrari’s special cars.
All structural components were modified for the engine’s power increase. To handle the increased loads, pistons and cylinder heads were strengthened. Parallel to this, a lot of attention was given to internal friction. For example, formula 1 solutions were used.
The engine’s distinctive sound is unmistakable and unique, just as it should be for a special series vehicle. In fact, the engine’s sound is better than the 488 Spider in every gear and at all speeds. It is easier for occupants of the coupe to appreciate this feature because it has a retractable hard top. Superior quality and intensity are achieved thanks to the new Inconel exhaust systems and the optimised exhaust bypass logic.
All of these solutions result in the engine’s lower friction, which allows it to rev more quickly. This is especially true when the engine is in high-speed transitions like gear shifting and low-gear acceleration.
Apart from increasing power, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider engine makes the cars handling intuitive and makes its powerful, razor-sharp performance available to all drivers in any driving situation, on and off the track.
To allow Ferrari 488 Spider drivers to maximize the engine’s performance, a host of high-performance features were introduced.
A new boost control strategy optimizes performance and response time in sporty driving at the limit. This makes all power available almost immediately.
The “Wall Effect” rev limiter strategy is another step forward in terms of engine performance. It does not limit revs gradually towards the limiter but cuts off at the red-line of 8000 rpm. This maximizes power in power-on-dynamic driving situations.
TRANSMISSION
Sporty driving feedback is further enhanced with the high-performance gearshifting, which is typical of a thoroughbred racing car. The new gear strategy is available in the RACE position of the manettino. It reduces shifting times up to 30 ms.
This model also features the highly-acclaimed Ferrari Variable Torque Management strategy, which is used for all gears. To adapt the vehicle’s extreme sporty spirit, all torque curves have been redesigned to give a consistent smooth, powerful acceleration to the red line.
VEHICLE DYNAMICS
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider’s dynamic design aimed to create a car with high mechanical performance. This includes standing starts and lap times, driving pleasure, and accessibility to performance for all drivers.
This V8 special-series drop-top V8 vehicle’s dynamics provide a seamless combination for exceptional acceleration, braking efficiency as well as steering precision, grip, stability, and handling. This creates an unforgettable and truly immersive driving experience. This is partly due to the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer. FDE makes controlling the lateral dynamics of high-performance vehicles easier, more controllable, and more predictable.
Ferrari’s engineers had many tasks to accomplish these goals. These included introducing lightweight solutions and developing a new generation for the Side Slip Control System (SSC 6.0). Also, improving the efficiency of the brake system and introducing new Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Like the 488 Pista, the Spider uses a lateral dynamic control system. This allows for the adjustment of brake pressure at the callipers using Ferrari software. The Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, (FDE), is only available when the manettino has been set to “CT-OFF”. It regulates the lateral dynamics parameters. This includes side slip angle estimation. The control system intervenes before the callipers are activated, allowing them to exit corners and lightening their movement.
Because the system regulates the side slip angle evolution, it makes control of the lateral dynamics of high-performance situations intuitive, predictable, and controllable. This system is not designed to control stability, but maximize performance.
Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer has been integrated into the SSC6.0 system. This gives drivers additional confidence to be able to manage long oversteer situations. It makes it easy to achieve and control the limit, even for less skilled drivers.
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider handles rapid changes of direction well and provides drivers with a unique sense predictability. This is possible thanks to the SCM-E dampers that have been recalibrated and the 10% stiffer Springs. Longitudinal acceleration on the 488 Spider is 13% lower than that of the 488 Spider.
Although the 488 Pista Spider was originally designed for roads, it can also be used on the track. To improve cooling under extreme usage and reduce heat buildup, the brake system was modified.
The 488 Challenge’s braking servo was designed to improve the sporty pedal experience and ensure consistent, smooth braking even under extreme conditions. This, along with the car’s lighter overall mass, has reduced the stopping distance at 200-0 km/h by one metre, compared to the 488 Spider.
The bodyshell was made to be light and lightweight and includes ultralight materials like carbon fibre for the engine cover and front bumpers as well as the rear spoiler and rear spoiler. Lexan is for the rear windows.
The optional 20 inch single-piece carbon fiber wheel rim is available for the first-time in Ferrari’s range. This rim is entirely made from carbon-fibre. It weighs in at around 20% less than the forged rims and has a channel and spokes with a special coating that efficiently reflects and dissipates heat produced by braking.
AERODYNAMICS
A lot of aerodynamics research was essential in improving the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider’s performance. It was possible to create significant engineering solutions by working with a concept that focused on performance and innovation without compromising.
The already remarkable aerodynamic efficiency of 488 Spider has been increased 20%. There are major benefits in terms absolute speed, lap times on medium fast tracks and sheer fun behind a wheel.
This remarkable improvement is due in large part the radical decisions made for the bodywork, underbody forms and the aim to increase downforce without increasing car drag coefficient.
The 488 Pista Spider, in fact, takes the aerodynamic ideas from the 488 Spider and transforms them into a more technically challenging and ambitious package. You can see examples of active aerodynamics in the rear underbody as well as a totally redesigned version the blown spoiler (patented for the 488 GTB).
The 488 Spider’s V8 Turbo produces 50 cv higher than the car it replaces. This is partly due to a decrease of 15deg Celsius in the temperature of air entering the plenum relative to the 488 Spider. Therefore, thermofluid dynamics focused its development on powertrain cooling to minimize aerodynamic performance.
To ensure the required performance, the intercooler had to be larger than the 488 Spider. The engineers focused their efforts on the whole car in order to minimize drag and increase weight. The radical layout choices at the car’s front were key factors in the intercooler’s improved efficiency.
The front radiator arrangement has been completely redesigned. As in 488 Challenge, the rake on the radiators was inverted so that they face forward to direct hot air to underbody. This made it possible to improve the performance of rear intercoolers by 10% and also added an aerodynamic advantage: the virtual fairing that covers the exposed area of the tire reduces drag by 7%.
The engine air intakes were relocated from the flanks (as per the 488 Spider) to the rear spoiler, as per the 488 Challenge. The spoiler’s unique shape delivers powerful compression which means that the engine intake gets high dynamic pressure. It reduces the length and consequent losses. It also boosts engine performance.
A need for downforce efficiency led to the redesign of the entire front end of the car, especially the bumpers. The S-Duct, a Formula 1-derived innovation, is particularly noteworthy. The front bumper intake passes through an aerodynamic funnel with calibrated sections. The air exits through a bonnet vent and creates downforce for the front axle.
A central lower wing profile completes the front intake with a dual purpose. It serves two purposes: it acts as an air splitter and accelerates the flow.
This particular solution has a 18% increase in downforce relative to the 488 Spider and a mere 2% increase drag.
Exterior sections of the bumper in front of the wheels were also extensively modified with solutions from the 488 Challenge. These modifications resulted in 23% increase of downforce relative to the 488 Spider. Radical scoops on the front bumper permit aerodynamic elements to protrude in areas that are most efficient. The front bumper’s volume is receded before the wheel arch to divert the flow in front of the wheels. This creates suction from the underbody and hence from the wheel arch.
Two elements were responsible for the rear downforce target: a blown spoiler and venting behind the rear tires.
The spoiler is larger (+30 mm), and longer (+40 mm), than the counterpart on 488 Spider. The efficiency of the spoiler’s bleed was the main focus of the development. The evolution of spoiler systems and their bleed has had a significant impact on downforce. They account for 25% of overall growth compared with the 488 Spider.
As with all new Ferraris, the underbody of the car was specifically designed to maximize downforce. The main difference between the 488 Spider and the 488 Spider is the way that hot air from radiators is diverted to the underbody, ahead of the front wheels. This was done to increase cooling and decrease the car’s drag coefficient. However, it reduces the areas that can generate downforce. In order to make up the difference and boost downforce further, designers used other parts of its underbody.
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider was equipped with front diffusers. This was made possible by changing the orientation of the front radiators and eliminating the dams before the wheels. A ramp that was already optimized for the 488 GTE allows the diffusers to speed up the flow and vent it to the wheel arches. This creates strong suction, which in turn accounts for 12% of overall downforce improvement compared to the 488 Spider.
The profile and length of the vortex generators underbody have been modified to produce 10% more downforce.
Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship experience is used to design the rear diffuser. The diffuser has the same double Kink line as the 488 GTEs. This increases the extraction and downforce generation abilities of traditional diffusers. As with the 488 GTB diffuser, it is equipped with three active flaps that can rotate 14deg in minimum drag configuration. This allows the diffuser to be stalled completely and significantly reduces drag.
The Ferrari Design Centre team worked with aerodynamic demands in mind. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider has forms that are precise and performance-oriented. A lot of attention was paid to ensuring that aerodynamic requirements were met while the Maranello marque’s iconic styling elements were preserved.
The aerodynamic S-Duct front was designed to visually shorten car’s nose. This created a unique floating wing effect. The distinctive aerodynamic underbody motif is referenced in the side flicks and black, omega-shaped edges on the front bumpers.
On the flanks, the most noticeable change is that the splitter has been removed from the side intakes of 488 Spider. The front aerodynamic profiles run elegantly from the front bumpers along the side miniskirts until they reach the rear diffuser.
The front concept is represented by the dolphin-tail rear spoiler. It appears suspended to create an illusion of lightness, efficiency, and power.
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider features a racing livery that spans the length of its car. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider starts at the front bumper and then goes into the S–Duct before reaching the rear spoiler.
The interior is minimalistic and has a racing-inspired feel. The Ferrari cockpit’s use of light, special technical materials like Alcantara, and carbon fiber is a great match for precision crafting and sophistication. This is evident in the fine examples of hand-stitching, triangular aluminum pattern tread plates and heel rests and sculpted door panel panels.
Two newly developed all-carbon-fiber clusters of instrument clusters are now located around the main panel. The glove compartment, normally found in the dashboard just in front of the passenger, was removed and replaced with storage pockets on the back bench and doors. The result is to visually reduce the volume of under-dash.
