This year’s addition to the lineup, the GT3 RS, features 518 horsepower and a plethora of aerodynamic elements that generate massive downforce, allowing the car to stay planted on the road. This includes a ridiculous rear wing that incorporates a drag-reduction system reminiscent of those found on Formula 1 race cars. When we get a chance to run it through our instrumented test procedure, we will update this account. It is the first production 911 to include a control-arm front suspension, which is the single most important performance increase on the newest generation of GT3 vehicles. When coupled with the coupe’s standard adaptive dampers and the available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 or Cup R tyres, the chassis offers exceptional cornering grip and unadulterated input. The GT3’s cabin is styled and laid out similarly to the rest of Porsche’s 911 models, paying respect to the original versions of the brand’s iconic sports vehicle. There are, however, a few interesting touches tucked away throughout the cottage. As before, the GT3’s instrument cluster is centered on a large analog tachometer with digital displays on each side, but a new GT mode moves all relevant data to the outside displays. Adjusting the rebound and compression of the adaptive dampers is made easier in the RS model thanks to new buttons on the steering wheel. In addition, the PDK automatic gearbox swaps out the short center-console shifter of standard 911s with a longer, more conventional lever that looks like it belongs in a manual transmission. No human passengers will have to endure the roar of the engine in the tight backseat of this GT3, which is identical to the one in the previous generation. A set of lightweight buckets, designed to decrease bulk and boost support, is available as an option for the front seats of a Porsche.
