Fifth-generation Honda CR-V
Fifth-generation of the Honda CR-V is a front-or all-wheel-drive SUV of a compact segment that combines an attractive design, high-quality and roomy interior decoration, decent technical component and good “driving” characteristics … The target audience of this car is primarily urban residents (outside depending on gender and age), leading an active lifestyle and wanting to get a “multifunctional vehicle”, where you can go to work, go to nature, and go on a trip …
The car has become better than its predecessor in all respects: it has grown in size, has noticeably changed in appearance (although it has remained “definitely recognizable”), has acquired a more solid interior and received modernized equipment. So, if in the States this all-terrain vehicle appeared already in December 2016, then in the “European guise” it celebrated its debut only in March 2017 – at the bridegroom in Geneva, and after a couple of months reached Russia.
In the second half of September 2019, a restyled SUV made its debut at a special event in the USA, which, as a result of modernization, slightly “freshened up” externally (due to other bumpers, rims and exhaust pipes) and practically did not change in the cabin (from the new here there is only a redrawn casing central tunnel), but at the same time received many new options. Not without technical metamorphoses – the five-door was separated by a gasoline 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 193 hp, which replaced the 2.4-liter “aspirated” (though Russia ignored this innovation).
The exterior of the fifth-generation Honda CR-V is made in the current style of the Japanese brand, which many models have already tried on – the car looks beautiful, fresh and energetic.
The facade of the crossover attracts attention with its headlights (optionally completely LED), a “hexagon” of the radiator grille and a faceted bumper, and its aft is decorated with sophisticated lights that “creep” onto the tailgate, and trapezoidal exhaust pipes spaced around the edges of the bumper.
And when considering the assembly, there is something to catch your eye on – the developed relief of the sidewalls, the window-sill line soaring towards the rear and the impressive wheel arches containing the “rollers” with a diameter of 17-19 inches.
Dimensions and Weight
The “fifth” Honda CR-V extends for a length of 4586 mm, the gap between the axles fits within 2660 mm, and the clearance is 208 mm. The width and height of the “Japanese” are 1855 mm and 1689 mm, respectively. The turning radius is 5.5 meters.
The curb weight of the vehicle ranges from 1557 to 1617 kg (depending on the version), and the maximum permitted weight is 2130 kg.
Interior
When designing the interior of this five-door, the Japanese, as a reference sample, seem to “stare at the BMW X3” and I must say that they managed to create beautiful and premium-looking “apartments” with carefully thought-out ergonomics and expensive finishing materials.
In the center of the front panel there is a 7-inch touchscreen of a multimedia system with physical volume control, and just below is a stylish “climate” unit. The weightiness of the crossover decoration is added by a catchy multifunctional “helm” and a fully “hand-drawn” instrument cluster.
The fifth-generation Honda CR-V saloon is able to accommodate five adult riders – they are provided with expanse on both rows of seats. Properly arranged front seats have clearly defined side support rollers and large adjustment ranges, and the rear sofa “flaunts” a welcoming profile, but does not differ in additional conveniences.
With a five-seat layout, the trunk of an all-terrain vehicle holds 522 liters of luggage (in addition to this, it pleases with successful forms), and when folded in passenger seats, it reaches 1084 liters.
Regardless of the equipment option, it is equipped with a small spare tire, and as an option, it can be equipped with an electric fifth door, including with the activation of a “kick” under the bumper.
Specifications
In the Russian market, two atmospheric gasoline “fours” of the i-VTEC series are announced for the fifth-generation Honda CR-V:
Initial versions include a 2.0-liter unit with distributed injection, a 16-valve SOHC-type timing belt, and a valve control system that generates 150 “horses” at 6500 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 4300 rpm.
More “capable” modifications are “armed” with a 2.4-liter engine with a light alloy cylinder block, direct injection, 16 valves, timing in the DOHC format and variable valve timing technology producing 186 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 244 N · m of torque at 3900 rpm.
Both engines are paired with a continuously variable variator and all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch, which is responsible for transmitting up to 50% of the power to the rear axle.
From a standstill to 100 km / h, such a crossover breaks down after 10.2 ~ 11.9 seconds, accelerates as much as possible to 188 ~ 190 km / h and “destroys” 7.5 ~ 7.8 liters of fuel in a mixed cycle of movement.
Design Features
The “fifth” Honda CR-V is laid out on a new modular “trolley”, which the tenth generation Civic has already tried on, with a transversely based powerplant, abundant use of high-strength steels in the body structure and a completely independent chassis.
The front of the car is equipped with McPherson struts, and the rear is equipped with a multi-link configuration (shock absorbers with reduced friction and lateral stabilizers are installed “in a circle”).
On the all-terrain vehicle, rack and pinion steering are used, supplemented by an electric power steering with a variable gear ratio. On all five-door wheels, disc brakes are enclosed (with ventilation in the front), which work by chipping with ABS, EBS, Brake Assist, and other electronics.
Options and prices
Sales of the fifth-generation restyled Honda CR-V should begin on the Russian market in the second half of 2020, but the “pre-reform” crossover is offered in our country in four trim levels – Elegance, Lifestyle, Executive and Prestige.
The initial configuration “Elegance” with a 2.0-liter engine is offered at a price of 2 134 900 rubles, and in the “base” this SUV has eight airbags, a single-zone “climate”, halogen headlights, an audio system with four speakers, ABS, EBD, VSA, ESP, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable mirrors, heating, and electric folding, heated front seats, an electronic handbrake, rear parking sensors, cruise control, audio system with four speakers and some other equipment.
A more powerful 2.4-liter engine is available from the “Lifestyle” version (and higher) – you will have to pay at least 2 409 900 rubles for such a car, while the “top-end” modification (only with a 186-horsepower “four”) will cost the amount of 2 689 900 rubles.
